This Crash Report is based upon media accounts contemporaneous with 1994, which are included as end notes.
In 1994, back in the olden days, when Susan Collins was running for governor versus Angus King and Joe Brennan, cannabis was illegal. And in Maine, marijuana fell into one of three categories. Top shelf was local “Maine Kind Bud” with indoor getting a higher price than sun-grown. The second shelf — aka mids — were Canadian, usually hydroponically grown, from Quebec or New Brunswick. Sometimes, if you were lucky, you’d get some of the super dank from Vancouver. Or at least that’s what the dealer would say, while charging an extra ten bucks per eighth.
The worst was brick weed, nasty brown, often chockfull of stems and seeds. That lowest level was grown and sprayed with all sorts of bad stuff in Mexico, then shipped north to the gringo dealers who didn’t care that they were poisoning customers with this cheap garbage.
That was the situation in the month of March 1994, when then 44-year old Michael Collins — the oldest sibling of the current senior senator from Maine — met with an informant with the U.S. Customs Service. Collins had a favor to ask. He wanted a thousand pounds of the Mexican dirt weed. And there would be a finder’s fee if the dude could hook ‘em up.
Collins, apparently, was no stranger to the drug trade. At the time, he was on the lam from Canada. For about sixteen years. He broke out of a New Brunswick prison in April 1976. He was serving a 18 month sentence for “possession of amphetamines for the purpose of trafficking” during the jailbreak. According to news reports, the Canadian cops considered him “armed and dangerous.” And that he was probably headed to Maine.
A month later, police tried — and failed — to capture the escapee during a raid of a Portland apartment. Then, in Feb. 1977, a New Jersey state trooper pulled over a car and discovered 17 pounds of the devil’s lettuce. And Collins was in the vehicle. He was “arrested,” but somehow got loose and ran off into the woods, evading capture once again.
What he did for the next 13 years is unknown — publicly. But in 1992, he and his then-wife opened “Winthrop Paint and Paper” on Route 202 in the Kennebec County town of Winthrop. Word on the street was that the joint was a front, apparently unbeknownst to his spouse. Neighbors told the media a “paucity” of customers visited the shop.
A Dummy’s Deal
So back to 1994. The snitch who Collins asked for a hook up on the dirt weed passed the request up the chain-of-command, who forwarded the tip to the DEA.
Then, with help from the MDEA, the feds set up a reverse sting operation. And Collins was an easy mark. He met with undercover agents and immediately agreed to pay $1,275 each for 1,000 pounds of some of nastiest reefer available. The terms were pretty simple: $20k to place the order. Then another $140k when Collins got the ganja. The balance, a whopping $1.1 million, to be paid-in-full ten days after delivery was made.
According to the undercover cops, Collins told them he was part of a five person cannabis collective, supplying dealers across the northeast. The plan was to ship 2/3 of the half ton of Mexican brown to New York for his partners to sell. About a third, or 300 pounds, he intended to sell in Maine, for between $2,500 and three grand per pound of cocoa-colored cannabis.
So let’s do the numbers: Collins and his collective basically doubled the wholesale price of the schwag and stood to earn $1,425,000 after paying for the half ton. Not all profit, of course. But tax-free if it was a real deal.
Which, of course, it wasn’t. Here’s what happened instead. On Aug. 26, 1994 Collins met the undercover agents in the parking lot of the Senator Inn in Augusta. He handed 20 large to the coppers as a deposit on a thousand pounds of shitty snicklefritz.
Paying the deposit money triggered phase two of the operation. Four days later, a cash drop was made in parking lot of the Holiday Inn in Bangor. Collins handed $140,000 and keys to an empty truck to the scruffy secret gendarme. The agents then drove to an unknown location and filled the truck with drugs.
Uhhhhh. Why did the MDEA have a thousand pounds of bad grass laying around?
Meanwhile, Collins went home to Winthrop to dig up the remained $30,000 he owed the undercovers. According to court documents, he had buried the loot in his dooryard.
A couple hours later, Collins and his sidekick drove to the parking lot where they’d been told the truck — laden with a half ton of weed —would be waiting for them.
At some point after the remaining cash was passed, Collins’ #2 jumped into the truck, ready to move the Mary Jane. Thing is, the cops had disabled the truck’s engine. And when the sidekick popped the hood to take a look-see, the police swarmed and cuffed and stuffed the twosome into custody.
However, the arrest was not made public for almost three weeks. Until reporters heard rumors of the bust. Which forced then-U.S. Attorney Jay McCloskey to make it explicitly clear: Michael Collins was NOT buying the weed for his little sister Susan, who was struggling to hold onto third place in the three-person gubernatorial race.
According to the U.S. Attorney, Collins-the-dealer wasn’t new to the game. After all, he’d been the one on the prowl for a thousand pound delivery. And it was his bad luck that he’d asked a snitch.
For the alleged crime, Collins faced 10-to-life in prison and a fine of six million bucks. If he went to trial. Which would’ve been stupid. So his lawyer negotiated a plea deal. Collins pled guilty and was sentenced to 40 months in prison. And his conviction, drug cops claimed, impacted the “upper echelons” of Maine pot dealers selling the nasty.
I’m not suggesting at all, that the little sis had any impact on her brother’s sentencing. Or his involvement in poisoning Mainers with chemical-sprayed cannabis.
After all, back in 1994, Susan Collins wasn’t a super-star. She’d never been elected to anything. Her only real experience was working as a low-level staffer for Maine Sen. Bill Cohen, followed by a gig in Gov. Jock McKernan’s administration. In 1992, Old Man Bush appointed her to the Small Biz Administration’s regional office. By the time her big brother pleaded guilty in 1995, she’d lost her bid for the Blaine House and she was silently plotting her run for Senate while working a made-up job at Husson College.
Susan was shocked
When news broke that her brother was a major league drug trafficker supplying low-quality cannabis at high prices to voters, Candidate Collins issued a press release.
“I was shocked and saddened to learn of the charges brought against my brother Michael,” the GOP gubernatorial candidate said in a statement upon learning the reverse sting op. “Obviously, this is a very difficult time for my entire family.”
Later, she told reporters that she wasn’t close to her eldest sibling, because he moved “out-of-state.” Which, apparently, is Collins-speak for being busted selling crystal-meth in another country, then participating in a jailbreak, crossing the border illegally and getting involved in the New Jersey shitty weed industry.
That said, I’m pretty sure Collins was lying about her relationship with her big bro. At the time of his arrest, she told reporters that she’d only seen him three times in the last six months, including at the 150th anniversary party for the family lumber business. And, of course, she’d seen him at the 1994 St. Patrick’s fundraiser that Michael Collins and his wife threw for “Susan Collins for Governor” at the now-defunct River Cafe in Hallowell less than six months before his arrest.
That fundraiser was held in the very same month that the elder Collins asked the U.S. Customs snitch to help score some weed. Also, that month Michael donated an additional $702 to his sister’s campaign coffers.
On May 19, her bro’s then-wife contributed $602 to the Collins campaign. On July 28, less than a month before buying a half ton of Mexican brown, Collins gave his lil’ sis another grand. And on August 16 — ten days before the weed purchase — the S-I-L gave $987 to “Collins for Gov.” Add the $203 in-kind donation for food and drinks the big bro paid for during the St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser and in total, according to campaign finance records, Collin’s bro and his spouse contributed $3,494 to her losing gubernatorial campaign.

(At the time of the arrest, Steve Abbott, Collin’s longtime henchman and current spokesman, told reporters that Michael had given the least of the candidate’s siblings. Interestingly, Michael Collins would contribute $750 to Abbott’s failed 2010 bid for governor.)
And in the years since his arrest for buying the half ton of weed, the senator’s big brother has donated at least a dozen times to his sister’s campaigns. But never as much cash as he contributed while working as a big dealer of low-grade cannabis.
And he continues to contribute today. In May of 2026, for instance, he gave $1,000 to her efforts to beat Troy Jackson.

I bring all of this up for a trio reasons.
1. Susan Collins has raised over a gazillion dollars this election cycle. If she’s is willing to take a grand from her elderly felon-of-a-brother, living on a fixed income, in southern Maine, then she’ll take money from anyone.
2. Susan Collins is eager to slur people of Asian decent, claiming that they belong to a widespread drug network and/or part of a cabal of CCP operatives trying to buy up all the farms in the Pine Tree State. Uhhh, need I remind you, Madame Senator, that your campaign for governor was funded by the proceeds of your once meth-dealing brother pivoting to selling shitty weed to Mainers? And who knows what other crimes her family committed up there in the County? I’ve heard chatter about procurement scandals that benefited her Aroostook posse, but are too complicated to explain to normies, except that she made it easier to steal from the government.
3. Collins and her bootlicking lackeys have been vicious in their attack on Troy Jackson and his family. Real scummy claims that I’m not gonna repeat.
I’ll say this: Clearly it’s jealousy when Collins and her surrogates mock and smear the love and relationship that Jackson and his longtime partner have shared. Their honest, legal and moral romance and life together is unattainable for a jezebel like Collins.
Because, as others have reported, the senator’s sexual history ain’t nuthin to be proud of. It’s been an open secret for decades in Maine GOP circles that Collins started having pre-marital sex with her current-husband long before his divorce from a woman dying of cancer.
What follows is just part of a recent post [[read the whole thing here]] by legendary Maine political operative Dennis Bailey (turned expatriate), the brain behind the operation that got Angus King elected to the Blaine House back in ’94 when Big Mike got busted by the feds.
I also got calls even then from several people claiming to have knowledge of Collin’s affair with a very married Tom Daffron, Bill Cohen’s former chief of staff who later become a powerful D.C. lobbyist. One person even offered to furnish pictures of Daffron’s car parked overnight at Collins’ home. It was….interesting, but not something Angus would ever use in a campaign. Daffron later married Collins while his ex-wife was battling terminal cancer. It’s not clear if Daffron left his wife before she was diagnosed with cancer or after. Either way, Collins saw nothing troubling about entering into a marriage under those circumstances.
To me, it’s crazy that people can still support Collins the senator. I mean, in addition to being instrumental in overturning Roe v. Wade, she’s part of the pedo-protector Epstein class and has enabled on countless times, the rotting-and-stinking anti-Christly MAGA Daddy.
But if you still think she has a moral bone left in her meat-suit, gimme a jingle. I’ve got a half ton of ditch weed for sale. Real cheap.
